District Days 2009: Leading with purpose

Alpha Sigs leading with purpose!

More than 200 (203!) collegiate and alumnae members of Alpha Sigma Alpha's District 2 gathered in Mount Laurel, New Jersey, February 27-28, 2009, for another great District Days! Thanks to our host chapters: Zeta Nu (Moravian College) and Philadelphia Metro Alumnae Chapter.

On Friday night, the women got to know each other with a fun ice-breaker activity, then laughed together with a movie. Saturday's programming featured a collegiate and alumnae track, led by The Leadership Institute—Women with Purpose, as well as:

  • Collegiate track: Managing Meeting Mishaps. Increase your leadership skills by effectively assessing difficulties that occur during meetings and then identifying the steps involved in making necessary changes.
  • Alumnae track: The Act of Balance. Information on prioritizing responsibilities and balancing all the roles that women fill.
  • Values-based programming: growth, learning, relationships, balance, responsibility, enjoyment, integrity, and generosity. (Links to presentations and handouts are listed to the right.)
  • Revisit the ritual workshop.
  • National council's "Members Moving Us Forward" focus group led by Kim Benson.
  • Mini-emporium with giveaways.
  • Afternoon roundtables for members and officers to share ideas, including a brainstorming table for next year’s District Day events. (Links to presentations and handouts are listed to the right.)
  • Raffle! Through the raffle and donations at the Foundation table, District 2 members hit their goal of raising $2,000 for the Alpha Sigma Alpha Foundation.
  • Recognitions.
