Sunday, June 3rd, intrepid members of Philadelphia Metro Alumnae Chapter braved the threat of tropical storm Barry and completed the chapter’s first annual June Stroll. Chapter members and families completed the 4-mile trek through the Wissahickon Valley area of Philadelphia’s renown Fairmount Park. Luckily, the heavy rain didn’t start till the group was back at the parking lot.

A big thank-you to everyone who participated and who contributed! The Stroll raised over $400 for the S. June Smith Center, one of Alpha Sigma Alpha’s national philanthropies. Several boxes of arts and crafts supplies from the center’s wish list were also donated; these will help greatly with learning activities for the kids.

Dr. S. June Smith was a member of Kappa Kappa Chapter at Temple University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education. The center that bears her name supports children with developmental needs through education, therapeutic services, and family-centered programming.
