District Days 2008

Alpha Sigma Alpha Foundation logo

One of Alpha Sigma Alpha’s core values is generosity, and District Days is a great way to demonstrate our commitment to that value. Fundraisers were held to benefit the Alpha Sigma Alpha Foundation, which supports education for women through scholarships, career enhancement grants, and programs like the Emma Coleman Frost Leadership Development Institute (LDI).

Thanks to your generosity, a total of $1,751.11 was raised for the Foundation during District Days weekend. Woo-hoo!

The Foundation has various giving programs that make it easy to support the Foundation no matter what your financial situation. Here are some of the details of the fundraising at District Days:

  • 1901 Society. This program for undergraduates asks for annual contributions of only $19.01 during the college years. Upon registration into the 1901 Society, each sister will be awarded a special dangle to wear proudly with her badge. District DaysFor each subsequent renewal, an additional dangle will be awarded to indicate the number of years she has been a member of 1901. Four dangles will be awarded in the following order: a single heart, a double heart, a dollar sign, and the final coveted “1901” dangle. All monies raised through the 1901 Society will go towards unrestricted funds, which help support many educational programs of the sorority.

  • Sky of Inspiration. Honor a fellow sister with a star in the Sky of Inspiration. Honorees got their names on a star in the "sky" and also received a star to decorate their name tag.

  • Stuff-the-bag auction. Everyone had fun bidding on neat stuff, like ladybug blankets, a Broadway trip, cappuccino maker, spa items, a taste of Philly basket, and more—all while supporting a good cause! Stuff-the-bag alone raised $701 for the Foundation; of that, $45 was directed toward the Gerry Cox Leadership Scholarship.

  • AΣA magnets. Washington, D.C., Alumnae Chapter sold this popular item again to benefit the Foundation.

  • Heritage Society. Membership in the Heritage Society is extended to Alpha Sigma Alpha members and friends making an unrestricted annual gift of $250 or more. See the Foundation's Making a Gift page for this and other ways to donate.

Other fundraising

Money was raised for the S. June Smith Center, who sold AΣA t-shirts with the center's logo sprinkled throughout the letters.

Delta Chi Chapter (ΔΧ) raffled off a basket to benefit the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life, in honor of two of their members affected by the disease. There's still time to donate to this cause; the event will take place April 25, 2008, at Bloomsburg University.
